Join us for an exclusive tour of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant, a cornerstone of California’s energy infrastructure. YPNG has partnered with PG&E to offer our members a private tour of one of the state's most significant power generation facilities. The tour will be followed with a hosted reception at the Avila Lighthouse Marre House, including drinks and light bites. Space is limited - sign up today!
The Diablo Canyon Power Plant is a nuclear power facility located on the coast of Avila Beach. Operated by PG&E, this plant has been a critical component of California’s energy grid since it began operations in 1985. Diablo Canyon consists of two pressurized water reactors that together produce about 2,240 megawatts of electricity, supplying power to more than three million people and accounting for nearly 9% of the state's total electricity production.
The development of Diablo Canyon began in the 1960s amid growing demand for reliable energy sources in California. After overcoming numerous regulatory and environmental challenges, the plant was completed and went online in the mid-1980s. Since then, it has played a vital role in providing low-carbon electricity to the state. Despite its controversial nature due to the use of nuclear energy and its proximity to seismic fault lines, Diablo Canyon has maintained a strong safety record and is recognized for its high operational standards.
